Monthly Archives: August 2019

Friends’ feedback is very important to FoBJ and to the organisers of the Festival.  Therefore the Membership Secretary has been asked to compile a report for the next Committee meeting at the end of October.

So if you can please email your comments on music content, venues, organisation, clubhouse etc., by the end of September that would be very helpful.   Thank you.

Jazzman Reviews of BJF 2019

BRECON JAZZ FESTIVAL 2019 -in words, sights and sounds…
>Reviews from Ian Man at Jazzman

Ian Mann enjoys the first full day of the Festival and performances by Maciek Pysz, Samantha Wright, Liane Carroll and the Steve Waterman Big Band. [The latter]..brought to a close a hugely successful first day of the Festival which had seen a series of excellent and very varied performances, all of which had been enjoyed by appreciative and pleasingly large audiences.

Ian Mann on the second day of the Festival and performances by the Pysz/Cousins/Gardiner Trio, Alice Leggett, Gareth Roberts, Barbara Dennerlein and Scott Hamilton…. a day of excellent and very varied music performed in front of sold out or near capacity audiences, with much appreciation being shown to all the musicians involved.

Ian Mann on the final day of the Festival, and performances by Ross Stanley, Karen Sharp, Stochelo Rosenberg, Rory Ingham and the Celtic Jazz Quartet..Lynne Gornall, Roger Cannon and their team are to be congratulated on another successful Festival that once again brought some exceptional jazz talents and some great music to Brecon. The stewarding was as courteous and efficient as ever, the sound excellent at all venues and every event ran to time.

Please retain your lanyards for next year

The lanyards proved very useful for identifying us and for promoting the Friends.  Please keep them to use again next year but if you do lose yours, we have more.  For the new members who had problems finding the clubhouse we have put directions on the Map page of this site.  We look forward to welcoming you there next year.

FoBJ hands over cheque for £2,500 to Festival organisers

Brecon Jazz Festival organisers, Lynne Gornall and Roger Cannon, send a big thank you to all The Friends who have, through their subscriptions and donations, enabled FoBj to hand over £2,500 to them again this year.   As they receive very little funding and are volunteers themselves, depending on volunteers throughout the festival, every amount they receive is vital to ensure Brecon Jazz Festival continues and flourishes.

On behalf of The Friends we would like to extend our thanks to the festival organisers and all the volunteers from Brecon Jazz Club for all their hard work and excellent organisation.  They were always ready to assist and it was lovely to be greeted at the venues by smiling faces.  As soon as we receive the reviews and feedback on this 2019 festival they will be available on this site.  But in the meantime, from our point of view, it was a fabulous Festival – in its 36th year – with fantastic musicians giving wonderful concerts throughout the weekend.  What more could we ask for?  Even the weather, although it was a bit wet and windy, was kind to us compared to other regions of the UK – with the sun putting in an appearance from time to time.
